Since 2022 these countries have strengthened their military cooperation.

On Thursday, the Russian Presidential Advisor for Economic Affairs, Maxim Oreshkin, proposed to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko the construction of a drone factory on his country.

“The basic proposal is to build a factory within a year that will be capable of producing up to 100,000 units annually. This is the proposal from the Russian side. Now we will discuss and agree on the details with our Belarusian colleagues,” he said, as reported by Belarus Segodnya.

“It is important for Belarus to have its own production capabilities that provide true sovereignty to its economy and security sector. This involves leveraging Russia’s technological advancements and solutions,” Oreshkin added, emphasizing that the use of a unified technological platform will ensure economic efficiency.

Over the past three years, Russia and Belarus have strengthened their military cooperation to the point of deploying Russian troops and tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory.

Since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, drones have proven to be an effective weapon on the battlefield and are used by both sides, leading Russia to seek an increase in production.

Additionally, the Russian government has approved a drone development strategy for both military and civilian use, which envisions a gradual increase in the production of commercial drones to reach one million units annually by 2035.

The strategy, approved by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in mid-2023, aims to stimulate demand for Russian-made drones, develop and launch mass production of these systems, and establish large-scale drone manufacturing enterprises.

Furthermore, the strategy includes the development of an infrastructure network comprising airfields, heliports, and drone ports, as well as the training of personnel to operate Russia’s emerging unmanned aviation sector.
